I'd also be interested in knowing where the photo of HZ-BL1 was taken. The pictures of the Cambrian and BEA 1-11s are beautifully reproduced I must say.

They've scanned well; John says most of the slides are in very good condition and he's got them properly stored; any taken at Hatfield were taken by a chap called Dick Winfield.

Only clue in the Bin Laden one is that there's a BA 737-200 by the hangars in the background, so it's possibly LGW, but that's just an educated guess on my part.

I would suggest the HZ-BL1 photo is taken before January 1984. There is a photo of her on Air-Britain site taken at Heahtrow, and I think the paint is more worn at the Air-Britain photo compared with the one above.

The Bin Laden group and Ahmed Baroom, both of whom had registered 1-11s, were involved in sponsorship of the Williams Grand Prix team in the late-70s along with other Saudi interests. I thought maybe that might help date the picture, though of course the bin Ladens would have had many Europe-wide interests at the time.

HZ-BL1 was earlier registered HZ-MFA and the registration change came in January 1981. The paint scheme that HZ-BL1 has in the photo above was applied before mid September 1977. This last date MFA was visiting BCAL at Gatwick to be maintained.

In other words, we have now narrowed in the time span to be between January 1981 and January 1984.
